Ilkley Town AFC President George Bloom passed away on Monday after a long battle with cancer. George dedicated a large part of his life to football in Ilkley. His two sons Andy and Michael played for Town and Ilkley Dynamos for many years.
Like many parents, George started out coaching his son’s team, the Ilkley Town's u10s 30 years ago. The club was quite different then. George had been a rugby player and it was his son's interest that started George's involvement in local football. George went on to undertake many voluntary roles for the club and was Chairman until 2008. He stayed involved as President even while his ill health reduced the amount he could get involved with. He dedicated a large part of his time for many years to the club and football in Ilkley. His contribution to football in Ilkley has been immense and his legacy will continue with the players and coaches who are benefiting from his efforts.
Ilkley Town Chairman, Richard Giles said "We were all very saddened to hear of the passing of George. He was a wonderful servant of football in Ilkley including Ilkley Town. He continued to attend our committee meetings up until quite recently and his passion and determination to see the club in a healthy position never changed even while he was managing his own ill health. Our thoughts are with Tess, Andy and Michael."
