Match Preview vs AFC Blackpool

As the relegation battle approaches what will be a dramatic finale, Ilkley will be looking to secure NWCFL football for next season when they host AFC Blackpool this Saturday, writes Evan Seaman.

With four teams, Atherton, Darwen, Ashton and Ilkley all currently separated by goal difference, there is all to play for still in the final game of the season, as two will be relegated and the other lucky two will survive the drop.

The Baht’atters advantage ahead of the other teams is that their goal difference is significantly better than the rest should it come down to that, so a win this weekend will be enough to secure their safety.

In terms of recent form, despite losing their last two games, both of the results were separated by just one goal and based on the last six games Ilkley have picked up 10 points from a possible 18.

Going forward, Ilkley will undoubtedly be looking to Kevin Gonzalez for inspiration as he has scored 24 goals in 28 games. Defensively, Matthew Swift has put in some solid performances recently after picking up Ilkley’s MOTM award last game so will be looking to get a much needed clean sheet.

Whereas for the visitors, they will be looking to consolidate their place in the playoffs as they push for promotion to the 9th tier of the football pyramid.

AFC Blackpool are in decent form as well, winning three, drawing once and losing twice out of their last 6 games which means they cannot finish any lower or higher than 4th.

The away side’s key man for the game this Saturday could well be Jacob Gregory who has scored 27 goals in 33 games so far this campaign.
