Ilkley Out of County Cup After Defeat to Campion
The visitors Campion AFC continued their red-hot form against Ilkley Town AFC as they beat The Baht’atters 4-0 at the MPM Stadium last night, writes Evan Seaman.
Ilkley Town started well when they had a chance from close range as Kevin Gonzalez won the ball in the box in the 5th minute, but his shot was saved by Bradley Emmerson.
But despite the home side enjoying more of the ball inside the first 10 minutes, they were punished from a corner when Campion’s Danny Keane rose above every defender to head it in to open the scoring.
After about half an hour there was nearly a chance for Ilkley to get back on level-terms when Emmerson rushed off his line, but the home team couldn’t find the right pass and Campion cleared their lines.
Not long before the break, Ilkley had a penalty shout turned down when both Shaban Mehmeti and Gonzalez went down in the box, but the referee waved away the protests.
Seconds afterward, Campion went up the other end of the pitch and Aidan Day doubled their lead to go into the break with a comfortable score line.
At the start if the second half, Ilkley did try to spark a comeback when Mehmeti found space on the left-hand side of the box after a nice move, but his shot was saved yet again by Emmerson.
With about 20 minutes left on the clock, Joe Colley scored a stunning long-range goal for Campion to make it 3-0 to the away side.
Campion finally rounded off the match when they hit Ilkley on the break late in the game before Colley bagged a brace to make the score 4-0.
The result means Ilkley are now out of all the cup competitions and will be hoping to bounce back quickly when they host AFC Blackpool in the league on the 12th of December after a short break.
