Second half goals for South Leeds secure them three points
Ilkley 1-3 South Leeds
A tough afternoon at the MPM stadium saw South Leeds take all three points with two second-half finishes punishing us in the end.
It was Ilkley that started the brighter of the two in the opening 15 minutes with a lot of early pressure to the South Leeds defence and a goal by Callan Parker-Wells as he improvised fantastically with a turn and a volley into the bottom corner to give Ilkley a deserved lead.
Not only the goal but Parker-Wells showed some true class in the midfield with neat touches and brilliant spray passes earning him Man of the Match for the afternoon's tie.
Jacob Mistry adopted a 4-4-2 formation for today’s game which showed many bright moments despite the three goals conceded for the Baht’atters. Young Harry Foley looked extremely promising, showcasing some great defensive work and real composure.
The visitors however showed a lot of class on the counter attacks, but it was a set piece that levelled things for them after a pin point delivery met the head of Isaac Acquah - his first of two this afternoon which gave South Leeds a lot of confidence to go on to claim three points.
It was end to end stuff to round off the first half with Ilkley having some crosses into the box which couldn’t be met, following wing play from young Harry Miles and Alexander Stewart, but nothing could be turned goalwards.
It was the second half that proved costly with South Leeds' Number 10 Anane Wirecko proving a handful for the back line with continuous mazy runs, and eventually Town were punished with two goals in under 15 minutes, handing us a frustrating defeat on home soil.
This result moves Ilkley to 16th place and still three points ahead of today’s opponents.
Manager Mistry will be hoping for a response Tuesday night as the side take on Leeds UFCA back at the MPM stadium. Kick off 8pm.
