Interview With Joe Garside

Well, that was some game. Where do you start after that performance?

Yes, what a crazy game, 9-2 is a score line you don’t often see. We are obviously pleased with the result and to score 9 goals, and some fantastic goals in there as well. It was a solid performance where we maintained our standards throughout the 90 minutes. Our only disappointment is to concede those 2 sloppy goals, one of which was a great finish by their player but the other one I think we could have easily avoided. Overall, a positive night!

Are you pleased to see the team play so well in such bad weather conditions?

Yes, the weather was just as crazy as the score line, however, thankfully due to our 4G surface it wasn’t much of an issue, if anything it helped us play to a higher tempo.

Your side scored a couple of very good goals from set-plays. Is that something you worked on in training earlier in the week?

Not massively to be honest, I think a huge positive to the U’23s is that it’s a platform for us and the players to try new things, and a couple of them paid of tonight which is always a bonus.

Will you be working on trying to keep a clean sheet for next week?

Absolutely, that’s an area we know we can develop as a group. Our style of play and philosophy can sometimes leave us vulnerable, but we believe in it, and we will continue to evolve.

How pleasing was it to see so many players get on the scoresheet?

It’s always great to see different players on the scoresheet, again I think it complements the style football we try to play, as well as the strength in depth we have at the club.

Were you happy to see two of your strikers, James Hughes, and Kevin Gonzalez, get braces for the team?

Very pleased for them, they are both different types of players and complement each other well. Hughesy has been great for us so far this season and so I’m really pleased he’s getting the goals he deserves!
