Ilkley fall to narrow defeat at home to Brigg Town

Ilkley 1-2 Brigg Town

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, a resilient Brigg team took the three points at the MPM Stadium against Ilkley Town AFC despite a strong second half performance from the hosts, writes Evan Seaman.

Ilkley got off to the worst possible start after conceding from a long throw-in in the seventh minute which allowed Scott Hutchinson to put the visitors ahead and put the home side on the backfoot.

For much of the rest of the second half though, Ilkley dominated a lot of the ball but struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities.

On the stroke of half time, the visitors scored from a corner after Joshua Batty scrambled the ball into the back of the net which put them in a comfortable position for the next 45 minutes.

But Ilkley hadn’t given up hope as Alfie Dean halved the deficit not long into the second half which gave them hope that they could complete a comeback.

For the rest of the game, The Baht’tatters pushed hard for an equalizer and were controlling possession but failed to take their chances in the end.

The attendance was 110, so they will be hoping to continue this throughout the rest of the campaign.

The result means Ilkley remain in seventh position and their hopes of a playoff spot are still very much in the balance.

Next up for them is Club Thorne Colliery away from home who are currently 14th in the table, so Ilkley will be looking to bounce straight back to get their season back on track
