Ilkley women hit five against Skipton Ladies
On a rainy Sunday afternoon, Ilkley Town AFC ran riot against Skipton to complete an impressive come from behind victory to move them into third in the table, writes Evan Seaman.
The home side burst out of the blocks when Taylor Orchard found space inside the box before rifling the ball into the bottom corner after Isabelle Armstrong’s assist to make the score 1-0.
However, it didn’t take Skipton to respond when they caught Ilkley on the counter, not long after Ilkley’s free kick when Armstrong’s shot smashed against the crossbar.
But Ilkley finally got their luck when they worked their way into the penalty area and made it 2-1 after Armstrong’s strike.
Not long into the second half, Ilkley didn’t stop there and got their third when Nat Eustance got on the scoresheet after a period of possession from the hosts.
With not long left on the clock, Mary Armstrong and Jess Begbie got a quickfire double to round off their victory and make it 5-1.
Their efforts didn’t go without reward, as Mary Armstrong picked player of the match for her tenacity and performance on the pitch.
Here’s what manager Claire Armstrong had to say about the game, “There’s a strong mutual respect between us and Skipton and they can never be underestimated. We played some good football in the first half which set us up to go on and win the game. Delighted with our squad performance today”.
