Ilkley narrowly lose on their travels against Worsbrough

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Worsbrough Bridge produced a good display against Ilkley Town AFC thanks to Lloyd Smith’s strike, which means they take the three points, writes Evan Seaman.

The visitors had the first chance of the game when Kevin Gonzalez went through one on one and rounded the goalkeeper, but his effort struck the woodwork as the ball bounced back into the play.

The attendance was 95, but they had little impact on the result of the match as despite both sides having a good amount of possession, it got scrappy as the game went on and few chances were made in the second half.

This means Ilkley remains in fifth place whereas Worsbrough move up to third in the table, three points between each other, and as it’s now the second half of the campaign, the race for promotion is heating up.

In terms of Ilkley’s form this season, it’s evenly matched both home and away as they have won seven at the MPM stadium and eight on their travels.

Next up for The Baht’atters is Appleby Frodingham who are currently bottom so should be a good test for Ilkley to prove their credentials.
